Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy

Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy is the gold standard treatment for gall stone disease. Gall stones are formed in gall bladder which is a pea shaped structure about 6-8 cm in size and lies in the undersurface of liver.

The function of gall bladder is to concentrate bile which is secreted from liver.

Intially gall stones are Asymptomatic, when gall stones cause obstruction to cystic duct or neck of gall bladder, the bile in the gall bladder is replaced by making and it forms mucocele of gall bladder.

Infection of mucocele or A sequel of Acute Cholecystitis leads to formation of Empyema (Pus) of the Gall Bladder.

If left untreated may results in gangrene or perforation of gall bladder giving rise to septicemia which may become life threatening.
